Marisa received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston-Victoria. She began working as a forensic interviewer as part of a multidisciplinary team in the fight against child abuse at the children’s advocacy center (CAC) in her hometown of Victoria, TX. After relocating and working for over seven years in the Travis County CAC, she decided to return to Victoria and the University of Houston-Victoria to pursue her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology.
Marisa is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has experience helping children, adolescents, parents, and adults as they work through issues of abuse, anxiety, depression, family problems/separation, grief, life transitions, low self-esteem, trauma, and suicidal ideations. She has been trained in sand tray therapy, is a registered play therapist, is comfortable with faith-based therapy, and is currently being trained in EMDR therapy.
Marisa believes that self-care and life balance are important. In her downtime, she enjoys spending time with her daughters, volunteering in the community, cooking, and planning trips to the beach. She also considers herself a lifelong learner as she recognizes the importance of never settling for what she knows and is consistently seeking to improve and build upon her current knowledge for both her own enjoyment and for the clients she serves.
